Containment - 4v4 Arena - UE5 Blockout

Containment is a symmetrical 4v4 arena inspired by fast-paced shooters like Quake and Doom.

This project intends to study and practice level design techniques for a sandbox designed for competitive multiplayer experiences.

This year I am looking to expand my portfolio with more multiplayer-based designs since my attention has been on Open-World and RPG-based levels over the last few years.

I wanted to create a space that felt compact enough to engage in those crazy CQC battles, but still give players enough breathing room to disengage and fight from a further distance. I only took a few attempts with the concept map until I was satisfied with the layout.

I found that establishing power positions throughout the map early, along with different movement lanes, helped speed up the development process for the rest of the Blockout.

When I start my Blockouts, I usually start with a centerpiece. Then I build out from there. So for this Blockout, I started with the giant broken Bio-Pod in the center of the map. I also found that establishing power positions throughout the map early, along with different movement lanes, helped speed up the development process for the rest of the Blockout.

For gameplay testing, I used the Lyra Starter Kit. It's been a great tool for testing multiplayer functionality through the systems Bot setup and game mode editor.

I would love to hear your feedback on this project. And any additional tips on designing maps for multiplayer would be much appreciated.
