Chateau POI - We the People

For this Point of Interest, I designed a Chateau-style cabin resort set in a post-apocalyptic, realistic world for We The People, our tactical extraction shooter. This POI was designed to feel both grand and functional, offering verticality, sightlines, and cover opportunities for intense gameplay encounters.

I approached this POI by starting with the terrain and elevation first to establish scale and sightlines. Placing the chateau on a high point allowed it to dominate the surrounding environment, while still creating opportunities for tactical approaches and strategic play. Next, I blocked out the main resort structures, cabins, and pathways, focusing on readability, flow, and cover. I then added supporting elements like terraces, staircases, and outdoor areas, ensuring each part of the resort served both narrative and gameplay purposes.

The biggest challenge was balancing a visually impressive location with playable combat spaces. I wanted the chateau to feel imposing, but I also had to ensure that players could navigate effectively and have meaningful combat options.

I really enjoyed laying out the terrain first and watching how the resort organically emerged from the environment. It was rewarding to see how each building connected to the other, creating a cohesive POI that feels like a lived-in, abandoned resort.
