Curse of FarrowFall is the main project I worked on as a 2021 Intern with Blizzard, working alongside the multi-talented Level Design team on World of Warcraft.
During this time, I was taught how to use the WoW Editor to Sculpt, model terrain, and utilize existing assets to build various environments and playable spaces such as a Quest hub and a Combat POI. Going into this internship with an open mind has given me a new approach to level design. I was learning level design from the ground up again, in ways specific to World of Warcraft's language.
Having been able to choose from the recent expansions' environment and culture kits, I went with the Kul Tiras and Drustvar kits to create a grim and eerie story where a small rural town and its lands begin to see signs of corruption and witchcraft cross over from the ominous isles of Drustvar. I gained most of my inspiration from playing through these locations when they released in the "Battle for Azeroth" Expansion.
The zones in Drustvar, such as the Crimson forest, gave off a Blair Witch theme to me, and I knew I wanted to incorporate something similar to my project. I want to thank the entire level design team for their guidance and teachings throughout this period. The incredible and critical feedback along the way helped shape my project into what it is now. Also, a special thank you to Gary Platner, Principle Level Designer on the World of Warcraft Level Design team, for creating this flythrough video of my project.
